Constructive Feedback Best Practices

Below are a number of best practices to use when providing others with constructive feedback:

  • be as specific as possible
  • precede a suggestion for improvement with a positive comment
  • ask if it would help if you were to clarify or reword your feedback to make it clearer
  • provide age appropriate feedback
  • invite the person to whom you are providing feedback to also provide you with feedback
  • try to ensure that the feedback you are providing is achievable and not overly demanding
  • thank the person to whom you are providing feedback for providing you with an opportunity to provide feedback
  • choose your words carefully, aiming to be as clear as possible
  • etc.
